Opened in 1837 as Advocates Library & Hall. Converted to cinema 1913. Closed 1981; now a nightclub. Original Architect: John Smith
The Palace Theatre, located on Bridge Street, was built following destruction by fire in 1896 of the People’s Palace on the same site. The interior of the new Palace, originally with two tiers, was completely gutted to the shell walls in 1929 and rebuilt, re-opening as a cinema with one balcony in 1931. The four-storey asymmetrical granite front survives largely intact, but this is a crude design of industrial quality - plain with a pediment over the three central bays and three large doorways with thin broken segmental pediments. Opened in 1898 as the Palace Theatre, seating 1800 over two tiers. Films introduced in 1911. Interior rebuilt 1931, 2000 seats. Ballroom from 1959, and nightclub since 1976. www.scottishcinemas.org.uk/scotland/aberdeen/palace/index...
Opened 1914 to seat 877. Sold with circuit, renamed Gaumont, 1950. Closed 1973. Demolished for offices, but façade retained.
