The Briggait - Architectural Detail
The Briggait, a Grade A listed building in Glasgow’s Merchant City built in 1873 was the city’s fish market for over 100 years. It’s been described by Historic Scotland as ‘Scotland’s most important collection of surviving market halls’.
The building ceased being Glasgow's fish market in the late 1970s. It was then converted into a shopping centre during the 1980s. This proved to be a temporary venture. In the 21st century it was converted into artists studios which opened to the public in August 2010. The steeple which dates back to 1665 has been restored.
